A meeting of the NCP network of the EC Horizon Research and Innovation Program was held
Coordinator of the Network of National Coordinators (NCP) for the EC Horizon Research and Innovation Program of the European Commission, Vice President of ANAS, Academician Ibrahim Guliyev held a meeting with members of the NCP network to discuss activities, results achieved and problems encountered within the framework of Horizon 2020 program.
Associate Professor Esmira Alirzayeva, Head of the Department of International Scientific Cooperation of the Office of the Presidium of ANAS, spoke about the activities of the NCP network in 2018-2020. She pointed out that in 2018, practical trainings on the tasks and functions of the members of the NCP network had been conducted by Gorazd Weiss, Chief Specialist in Research and Development Strategy of the Austrian Center for Social Innovation, for the members of the updated network with the support of ANAS. In 2019-2021, experts of the European Commission conducted trainings for scientists and specialists of Azerbaijan on the preparation of projects and COST Action. E. Alirzayeva said that in recent years, members of the NCP network had held informational seminars and webinars on Horizon 2020 calls for scientists and specialists of scientific, educational and healthcare institutions of Azerbaijan, as well as government organizations, and video materials for COST Action and Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions programs had been posted on the official website of ANAS and on social media. She also informed the participants about the priority areas of the recently announced Horizon Europe program and the budget allocated for them.
Speaking at the event, members of the NCP network brought to the attention of the participants the results of their work and the challenges they had faced in recent years:

Rovshan Kerimov, NCP for Climate Action, Environment, Resource Efficiency and Raw Materials, Leading Researcher at the Institute of Geography named after academician Hasan Aliyev of ANAS,
Rahima Gabulova, NCP for Health, Demographic Change and Prosperity, Deputy Director for Clinical Work of the National Institute of Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation, Associate Professor of the Azerbaijan Medical University, PhD in Medicine,
Nabil Seyidov, NCP for Food Security, Sustainable Agriculture, Bioeconomics and Biotechnology, Head of the Health Policy and Planning Department of the Center for Public Health and Reforms of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan, PhD in Medicine.
Fuad Novruzov, NCP for Euratom, Head of the Nuclear Medicine Department of the National Cancer Center, PhD in Medicine, spoke about participation in events on Euratom and about issues that need to be resolved in the issue of Azerbaijan joining successful projects. He also brought up for discussion the topics of special training seminars for scientists and specialists of medical institutions.
Tofig Babayev, Legal & Financial NCP, Director of R.I.T.A., Head of Foreign Relations and Innovation Department of the Institute of Control Systems of ANAS, PhD in Engineering, spoke about the areas announced within the framework of the Horizon Europe program. He pointed out that areas are such as medicine, digitalization, food security, bioeconomics, climate change, alternative energy, intelligent transport, civil security, cultural heritage, and innovative technologies are priority areas.
Rustam Rustamov, Head of the Scientific and Organizational Department of the Presidium of ANAS, PhD in Physics, emphasized the important role of the Horizon Europe program in the integration of Azerbaijani scientists into the international scientific community and put forward proposals to solve the problems raised by the members of the NCP network.
Academician Ibrahim Guliyev discussed the issue of making changes to the composition of the NCP network and bringing it in line with the activities of the Horizon Europe program. Taking into account the proposals, the new composition of the NCP network included leading specialists of relevant government agencies, scientific and educational institutions. In order to increase the level of participation of Azerbaijani scientists in the Horizon Europe program in 2021-2027, it was decided to develop a strategic plan.
